Hello fungi people
Thank you Malte to inviting me to the group!
My Name ist Emmy, I´m studying wood engineering in Eberswalde Germany and I´m looking for a topic for a bachelor thesis. In my studies, I was especially enthusiastic about ecological construction, sustainable use of resources, forestry and wood biology. Also I´m interested in mushrooms for eating or for healing. For my bachelor thesis I am thinking of writing about wood destroying fungi or insulation and packaging material made from fungal mycelium.
Now I´m in the process of researching. So if any of you have an interesting article, other ideas or experience in these areas yourself you are welcome to write me.
Welcome to the forum! Thanks for joining us and introducing yourself.

Lately I’ve been reading some papers written by Professor Lynne Boddy from the Fungal Ecology group at Cardiff University. She and her group specialise in wood-decay basiodiomycetes and have produced a lot of fascinating research. If you’re interested in wood destroying fungi, that would be a great place to start! Here’s a paper we recently covered as part of the reading group:
In terms of fungal insulation or packaging material, you might find something useful in the Mycomaterials & Mycofabrication Wiki I just started yesterday. This paper by Haneef et al. may be of particular interest to you:
Thanks for sharing yourselves guys - this makes me so happy <3
I would recommend to write Vera Meyer, I know she’s involved in mycelial-based materials in some way - maybe there’s a bachelor thesis in there for you. Vera.Meyer@tu-berlin.de
